M. Anne Sweet is an artist
and poet. She studied art and art history at the University
of New Mexico. She is the associate editor/art director
for Washington Thoroughbred magazine, published
by the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association,
and has 30 years experience in the field of graphic
design.
Sweet is currently working primarily in digital mixed
media, but is also engaged in developing a series of
rhythmic or pattern based photographs ("found assemblages"),
as well as exploring figures in a variety of mediums.
In 2003, she received a Purchase Award for "Laundry
in Light and Dark" (Cuba, 2003) in the City of
SeaTac's annual photo competition. Also in 2003, she
was awarded the Juror's Award for "Menstrata"
at the City of Federal Way Arts Alive show, which resulted
in a one-person show at Federal Way City Hall in early
2005. Her work has been exhibited in individual and
group shows in Seattle and the surrounding Puget Sound
area. Since its resurrection in 2000, she has been co-curator
of the annual Equine Art Show at Emerald Downs.

Sweet’s
poetry collection, Nailed to the Sky, is available

Her poetry has also appeared in The Seattle Five
Plus One: Poetry (Pig Iron Press, 1995), Crab
Creek Review, The Raven Chronicles, Pontoon, Main Street
Rag Poetry Journal, PoetsWest Literary Journal, The
Charlotte Poetry Review and many other print and
online journals. Two of her poems were awarded Poems
of Special Merit in The Comstock Review.

In 2003, Sweet won the Bart Baxter Poetry in Performance
competition of the Washington Poets Association. She
is currently working with area musicians on interdisciplinary
collaborations combining poetry with percussion, flutes,
shakers, hand-clapping and a variety of world music
instruments.
In addition, Sweet is a founding member of the board
of Musical Experiences, a group dedicated to bringing
an understanding of classical music to a broad audience.
She was one of the rotating facilitators for the SPLAB!
(Northwest SPokenword LAB) Living Room series. For several
years she organized a popular south Puget Sound reading
series called Passion for Poetry and is a past member
of the board of the Washington Poets Association.
